Jonathan Clay is a raw talent from the great state of Texas! Having experience in the music industry for being so young is a real accomplishment. Clay set his sights on a music career while in college and was offered a development deal with Atlantic Records in ’07. His lyrics/melodies make us feel like this artist is wise beyond his years! Refusing to be pigeon-holed, Clay has drawn on elements of Blues, Rock, and Soul, as well as his Texas southern roots. His past studio recordings have been heard on MTV’s The Hills, The Real World, Newport Harbor, The Freshman, ABC’s Lincoln Heights, The Lifetime Network, and the WB.

In 2009, Clay traveled to Nashville to work in the studio with Producer Kevin Kadish (Jason Mraz, Stacie Orrico) and Mixing Engineeer Jeff Juliano (John Mayer, John Butler Trio, Stephen Kellog). His highly anticipated second album “Everything She Wants” has been released on iTunes June 15th, 2010.

Jonathan Clay Interview:

Your latest album just released – How has your music evolved throughout the years and is this album different than your previous albums?
I feel like my music is a direct result of what I experience in my life. I’ve pushed myself, I’ve struggled, and I’ve worked harder on this record than anything else I’ve ever done before. I’ve started asking questions that in the beginning, I didn’t even think to ask. Musically, I’ve tried to embrace what makes me different from everyone else. If you listen, I think you’ll hear something that started out as a simple singer/songwriter project and has evolved in to a culmination of soul, blues, pop, and rock.

How was working with producer Kevin Kadish?
Kevin is amazing. He’s got a great ear, and I learned so much from working with him. First and foremost, he’s a songwriter. I think that really helps, because he looks at everything from a songwriters perspective. He hears great melodies, and he’s got an appreciation for what makes a song credible, as well as what makes a great pop song.

When you landed your development deal with Atlantic Records in 2007, did you feel like you had “made it” right at that moment?
I felt like I was “making” it. Whatever that meant… I was 21 years old and completely awestruck when I stepped off the elevator to see that giant, red, “Atlantic” logo on the glass door. Looking back, it makes me smile. I know now that I was nowhere near ready though. The experience I’ve gained over the last few years has been invaluable.

What did you learn from that experience? What advice would you give other artists in a similar situation?
I learned to trust in life’s timing. I learned that things can disintegrate at the last minute, and I learned that no matter what, I’ve got to have a driving force inside me that nobody can take away.

If you could, would you do it all over again?
Sure. I feel lucky to have had the experience.

When you left Texas State University to pursue your musical career, did you ever think twice about your decision?
Not really. It was (and still is) such an excited ride that I didn’t really care to think twice. Not to say that I’ve never thought twice, but one thing I know for certain is that school didn’t align with my personal path through life.

With your love of music being first in your life (I would assume), what comes second?
Most definitely my spiritual life, my love for my family, and the outdoors.

Lukas Rossi has an amazing rock sound that is truly authentic! You may remember the hit TV show Rock Star: Supernova comprised of rock musicians Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Jason Newsted (Metallica), and Gilby Clark (Guns N’ Roses). They were searching for their lead singer to go on a world tour…and Lukas Rossi was their man! Not only did Lukas Rossi have the success of winning the competition, but he also had a publishing deal with EMI. Check out Lukas Rossi’s newest album entitled “Hollywood“ with his band named Stars Down on iTunes. This Hot Indie Artist is here to stay! --

Lukas Rossi Interview:

1) What inspired the lyrics on your newest record? Which song is your favorite/most meaningful?

The lyrics on the record came from all the horrible and beautiful things I have experienced in the last few years. My favorite song would have to be Hollywood or Hail to the Queen. It’s about obsession and the need to have something you are not and don’t need.

2) Is the song “Hollywood” directly related to your experience on the hit TV contest Rock Star: Supernova?

Yes the song is an exact portrayal of my experience on the show and the aftermath .

3) When you won that particular opportunity to travel the world with all the talented members of Supernova, how did you feel? Was it what you expected?

It was a very special experience and the best time if my life. It opened me up to millions of people around the world who have been the definition in my life today. My fans are the absolute center and reason for most of my lyrics and heart for music.

4) Did you still keep in touch with any members of Supernova?

I still talk to Tommy Lee. We are good buds and always will be.

5) Although you won this great opportunity, you decided to go solo after your world tour. Why did you decide to go in that direction?

I decided to quit Supernova because I felt that the music we were doing was not what I wanted to leave behind in life. I had no true connection to it. The celebrity factor is NEVER as important as the content or premise of my music.

6) You have accomplished a lot in your career. Many young musicians would like to know how you were able to get the opportunity to sign a publishing deal with EMI in 2004? Any advice you would like to pass along?

The only thing required I guess would be to do it for the right reasons and to have love for the message and music. Not the money or fame. If you have nothing to say don’t say anything at all. It comes from inside. You’ll know when it’s time.

7) Lastly, what is your opinion on the music industry as a whole? If you could go back and change anything about your musical career, would you?

The music industry has completely swallowed itself and this has come back to nip itself in the ass. It’s all about what sells, and once that sells, they wanna find another artist who is almost a replica and than sell that. It’s made people numb and sick and quite honestly has made music quite pathetic. What happened to feeling something from music? Tears. Love. Joy. There is so much more. But it all doesn’t concern me, I do what I do for me and my fans…none of it to be competitive but to be ME. Hardly anyone writes their own songs anymore. Just because someone can sing someone’s song it doesn’t make them an artist…it makes them a great karaoke singer.

Upcoming Tour Dates:
August 20, The Galaxy Theatre
August 21, Brixton South Bay

This talented singer-songwriter has only begun his career and he is clearly doing something right! We caught up with Andrew to find out where does he go from here? **Be sure to check out the song “The Ladder” on iTunes —->

We know you are based out of Chicago and Nashville. What feels more like home?

I always tell people that Chicago satiates everything I could ever ask for in relation to food, friends, sports, and family (my favorite things). And for that reason, it will always be my true home. The home you go back to for weddings and holidays; graduations and birthdays. But Nashville, over the past year, has become my home for more grown up reasons. It’s where I come back to after being out on the road for months at a time. It’s where I come to create and record my music. The artist community I’ve been lucky enough to fall into down here is unparalleled; constantly helping me to grow as an artist; and for those reasons, it has started to become my home….away from home.

Your music has been on some of the hottest shows out there! How did it make you feel when you first watched a television montage with your music?

Extremely flattered and blessed is really the only way to describe my feelings about my songs being used in so many hip tv shows these past few months. For years, shows like Grey’s Anatomy have been helping break young, new artists and I can remember 2-3 years ago when i started writing my very first songs – i was like ‘I want this song to be on Grey’s Anatomy’ or ‘this song would be perfect for a scene where somebody is dying in a hospital bed.’ I mean, I literally wrote my newest single ‘In My Veins’ with a Grey’s Anatomy finale in mind…and 1 year later, it’s featured in the season 6 finale. It’s ridiculous how blessed I’ve been this year.

What’s the best and worst thing about being a musician to you?

Best thing: Doing what you love to do, bringing songs to life that you created in your head, and then watching them go out into the world and find meaning in other people’s lives. Very rewarding. Worst things: Inconsistency. Instability. Never being home. Maintaining relationships.

What is your favorite memory (so far) of your musical journey?

Gosh, there have been a bunch in the past 12 months…the one that sticks out the most is probably the final show of the Ten out of Tenn: Christmas Tour that I was a part of in December of this past year. It was our hometown show in Nashville after being out west for 3 weeks. We sold out the Exit/In, and played the most magical show I’ve ever been a part of. I was a fan in the audience at this show 1 year prior, and now I’m on stage playing my songs with these artists at a sold out show at one of the most legendary clubs in the country. It was like in the movie ‘That Thing You Do’ when the guitar player looks back at the drummer and goes ‘How did we get here!?’. I’ll never forget it.

We are sure that you will be hearing Andrew Belle’s music for a long time. We wish him continued success and hope he inspires other artists to reach for their dreams.

His newest record “The Ladder” reached #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts, scored a spot in the Top 100 chart on iTunes, and charted in the Top 25 on the Billboard Heatseakers Chart!

Floral Terrace has bursted onto the scene as ONE HOT INDIE BAND! As a young band in New York’s highly competitive Hudson Valley music scene, the group is based around one singular concept – writing catchy guitar driven music. 18 year old front man, Justin Olori, admits “it hasn’t been easy getting noticed. You just have to love and believe in your music and hope people can see, feel, and hear it in your work.”

After years of knowing each other and having been in countless local bands between the 3 of them, Floral Terrace was born. Justin and his childhood friend, George Bosotina, partnered up with drummer John Damiano to begin putting the puzzle pieces together. Brian Millagram quickly grew into the role of rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist. When Olori chose to put down the bass in early 2009 to focus solely on singing, he looked no further than his older cousin, Justin-Allen Speca.

In less than one year the band has had the opportunity to support such acts as: Straylight Run, The Friday Night Boys, Every Avenue, and Envy on the Coast throughout the greater New York area and has gained quite an internet following. After achieving success regionally, the band took to the road. They toured with friends Artist Vs Poet, Racing Kites, and TVTV for their first time out. Subsequent tours with The Ready Set, Go Crash Audio, Backseat Goodbye and Goot took the band to new places as far away from home as Denver, northern Florida, Dallas, and Chicago. Floral Terrace (aka Flo Teezy) as their fans affectionately refer to them, has currently played in 25 of the 48 Continental Unites States and has over 50,000 friends following them on Myspace .

Floral Terrace remains optimistic about their future. “A lot of bands get really worked up about the music industry,” says George Bosotina. “We just want to write an album we believe in and take it to the world. Whether we are by ourselves or with the support of a record label, we are coming!”

What are you currently up to?
We just got done recording some new songs with some good people. Recently we’ve really been feeling doing collab songs the way hip hop artists do. this particular session we wrote and then brought to our friend zack and jeremy. they sat down with us and we just went at it the way hip hop artists do. We then jumped into rob freeman’s (cobra starship, hit the lights) studio and tracked it with help from our longtime friend Greg. From there we are sending it to paul leavitt (all time low, friday night boys) for a final mixdown. These songs will be available on our myspace next week!!! we will also be doing exclusive extra stuff on our purevolume account!!!

Any interesting band stories you would like to share?
On our last tour we pushed our van 2 miles off the exit in the mojave desert of california to save money on the tow since rates are ridiculous out there.

Do you write from your personal experiences?
Absolutely, our band name is named off experiences growing up that we just really wanted to get away from. Every single one of us came from some awful shitshow situation and kind of were dumped in a room together in july of 2008, we looked at eachother like what the fuck are we really even gonna do this? haha sure enough here we are. Our first batch of material was so depressing haha, were cool with it still but its like damn we were pissed back then! Recently we’ve been writing about so much more stuff than we ever imagined.

Do you have a particular song that means more to you than others?
As for stuff one can reference, the song “first to leave” is some of the most honest lyrics weve ever wrote. the song came as we were learning to write about new stuff and one thing bothering us has been how mean people are, in but not limited to relationships. Once we started writing it we just kept going and had the song done in like 2 days flat.

You have a fresh sound, what are your hopes for the future of your band?
We have a few producers we’d like to work with and depending on what/if label says we’ll most likely get to work with one of the few people we’ve pegged for our first official release. We also hope to go overseas and play to the UK, Japan and Australian kids. We’ve been getting some noise online from those countries and its blowing my mind we may even have 1 person interested in seeing us live in another part of the world. haha

Their name epitomizes the feeling you get from listening to their music. It’s light and airy with a touch of rock/alternative. With all the members being in their early twenties, I think we will be hearing from them in the near future.

Exclusive Interview with “The Sky Life”:

What type of music do you listen to in your spare time? Favorite artist?

We all listen to a similar type of music. We are really drawn to music that sends out a strong sense of thought or emotion. Generally we like to listen to and play music with a positive vibe. We strive to reflect that in our writing. Bands that write truths about themselves rather than random topics tend to inspire us quite a bit lyrically. Some of our favorite bands include: Angels and Airwaves, Copeland, Phoenix, LIGHTS, Owl City, Motion City Soundtrack, Dashboard Confessional, and Moneen.

When was your album released? Is this your first LP?

Our first EP was released in 2005, it’s entitled “The Making of a City”. It was mainly acoustic based with a bit of a soft synth feel. We released our first LP “Dimes and Discourses” in October of 2008. This release featured a little more drums and electric guitar and touched on harder vocals and distorted guitar. A sound which has become the norm now from The Sky life. “Roots and Wings” was released in October 2009 and it’s a lot rockier. We really wanted to pass along emotion and a true experience at our live shows. To do this we boosted up our sound 100%. You’ll hear a huge difference between the Albums.

Is this your first tour in June 2010?

This will be the first extensive tour for The Sky Life, up until now we have largely stayed in our state and grown a fan base here. Now that we are getting more mainstream radio play and hit the top 100 charts for alternative rock in Canada, we are needing to spread our tours further. We will be playing across Canada this summer.

What are you goals for the future?

Our future goals are to continue focusing on film placements as this seems to be one of the best ways to get publicity. A successful tour is also a large goal. We want to sell around 5000 physical copies of the cd and sell a good amount of merch. (and stay together as a band ) We would also like to secure an indie label for help in promotion and booking.

If you could do it all over again, would you do it the same?

We would have started off hard from the get go. We eased into this a little slow and its all come together, but it could have happened a lot faster. We would have shed our nerves and gave it 100% on stage sooner, as well. It’s all about the live performance and giving people something they will remember. Other than that things have happened when they were supposed to.

Any crazy bands stories?

Being on tour and sleeping on a gravel road, waking up and seeing my drummer unknowingly waking up with rocks stuck to his face. Pretty great and we made it to the wake board competition just in time to play.

Where can we buy the record?

We like to push and Emusic.com for our cd sales. They are available on most online distributor sites also.

Detlef Zoo is a mix between Placebo and The Beatles – a very interesting combination. Their most recent album was recorded in London by British producer and musician Andy Gill (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gang of Four, Futureheads etc.). They were also nominated for the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. One of their best songs to date is “If It Makes You Happy” with a driving beat that makes you want to dance! “So Cold” is another song that seems to be a classic rock anthem. Very cool. Be sure to check out this band.

Jason Zerbin is an Edmonton based Indie Rock band carrying the name of its chief songwriter and front-man. Ryan Wegner, Jon Greig, Jeremy Dehek, and Peter Mol fill out the band forming layers of rich melody and moving rhythm.

Self described as “….indie rock, thick with melody and an almost symphonic layering of instruments.” Though some songs may hint of “pop” melodies easily getting stuck in your head, these are accompanied by lyrical and musical moments of honest emotion and spirituality. “We hope that listeners will not only love the music for what it is from a technical standpoint, but will also appreciate the experience that they are invited into.” Whether in live performance or when listening to recordings, fans will often find themselves drawn into that experience, being impacted by the strong Spirit found in the music.

Their debut record (3.9.2010) is consistently marked by this musical fusion; with lyrics that prove to be both poetic and accessible.

“Whether it’s a melody, rhythm or lyric, music can go as deep as to bring healing into someone’s life or simply bring the sunshine to a cloudy day.” It’s this belief that sparked the recording of their debut album and is the constant motivator behind their shows and live performance.

Sweden, the unofficial headquarters of epic-creative-pop, seems an inevitable launching pad for Versant. Led by Carah Faye, former front-woman of the Grammy-nominated Shiny Toy Guns, and produced by fellow band-mate Daniel Johansson, Versant synthesizes the melodicism of a true pop siren with up-to-the-minute textures that can ignite both dance floors and dirty rock clubs. “Versant is a summation of dreams,” says Carah Faye. “It’s music we believe ‘belongs’ but is rarely understood, much less brought to reality.”

Lyrically, Faye draws from real-life experiences and reveals their difficult, but ultimately transcendent, lessons: “I will wait for the truth to find me/ But I will never leave it to you” (“Out of Touch”). The band has a goal of encouragement and inspiration through their music as well as hoping to “help people to heal or be inspired to reach for more.” Johansson and Faye met in the most organic of ways—on the road. Johansson worked as a front of house engineer for Shiny Toy Guns as well as for fellow Swedes The Sounds, who tapped him to produce the title track of their 2009 release, Crossing the Rubicon. Similarly, Johansson met drummer Richard Ankers on the road with Anker’s previous band Melody Club. Along with Ankers, bassist Nicholas Oja, who Johansson met while living in LA in 2005, and Grettve, who had been a childhood friend, they became the three obvious choices for Johansson and Faye to invite on the envisioned journey. Unsurprisingly, they draw artistic inspiration from a diverse playlist. “Mew, Kent, Coldplay, The Cardigans and Michael Jackson have been in rotation in 2009—anybody with an individual sound who likes espresso and walks on the beach,” Carah laughs. Versant is in the process of putting the final touches on their self-released EP, due out June, 2010. Reaction to demos posted on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/versantmusic) has been unanimous: Although only debuting, Versant exceeds high expectations, and introduces loyal fans to a bristling new musical collaboration.

Interview with Versant:

Where exactly is the band headquartered – California or Sweden?

We are currently stationed in Sweden. Eventually we would like to be working out of LA. Right now it makes the most sense to keep the majority of us close to home, and close to where our current resources are.

When is your album going to be released?

We are hoping for a June release. It was pushed back while we worked on finding the perfect person to mix it, but with that person finally locked down, I think it’s a safe date.

Do you think Shiny Toy Guns fans will embrace this music, or are you looking to attract a different audience all together?

I guess it all depends on what their reasons for liking STG were. Overall I would assume that they would. The fans of STG will ALWAYS be very very dear to me. I can only hope they appreciate Versant.

Do you fear being compared to Shiny Toy Guns?

No, I welcome it. Comparison is inevitable in this situation. At the end of the day, I wasn’t trying to create another STG, so comparisons can’t go farther than the fact that I used to be in that band. We simply made music that was what we personally enjoyed.

How exactly does the songwriting happen with an ocean between you guys?

An obvious problem. The easiest solution was for me to live in Sweden while we wrote this album. So I have been, and it’s been wonderful.

Daniel and I bounce everything we do off of each other, and I don’t see how we could complete anything we do if we were separated by an ocean.

Has Versant found a label to release through, or is the plan to do as much DIY as possible?

We definitely made the decision to DIY our first release. We’d like to go as far as we can go for now. Then begin the search.

What can fans expect after the album is dropped?

Shows!! Right after the completion of the EP we’re jumping into rehearsals and getting ready for as many shows as we can handle.

Will you be debuting your CD in the USA?

Well, it’s an digital release. That said, everyone would have access to it at the same time.

Do you plan on previewing/releasing any more songs before the ep/album is released?

No. Being that the EP is already short in songs we’ll save the remaining songs for the actual release. But, never say never.

What has been the most exciting part of this band so far? Any crazy stories you want to share thus far?

Nothing too crazy yet. The craziest part of everything “Versant” so far is basically what had to happen in order for us to even become a thought. Now, we are much more than a thought and on our way to fulfilling what we’ve been planning for awhile now.

TRANSMIT NOW is a Powerpop-rock quintet from Orlando, Florida!

The band has recorded their first full-length record titled “Downtown Merry-Go-Round” which is due out in early 2010. This summer they released an EP “Test Test” and the five songs will also appear on “Downtown Merry-Go-Round”. “Test Test” was released since they were on a summer/fall tour with Framing Hanley that went across the nation.

Their song TARANTISM has been played on the VMA’s, MTV’s Making The Band 4, Paris Hilton Is My New BFF and ESPN Sports Center. The band was also the winner of MTV’s “I Want My Music On MTV2 Contest”. TARANTISM is being renamed to LET’S GO OUT TONIGHT and more than likely will be the first single off the upcoming full length CD.

Andy (vocals), Kevin (guitar), Greg (drums), Tony (guitar) and Lee (bass) have a lot in store come 2010 with their debut full length. They recently filmed a video for fans to GET TO KNOW THE BAND. (see below)

Transmit Now Interview:

Interview with ANDY BROOKS (lead singer for TRANSMIT NOW)

How does it feel to be signed to a label?
A lot like not be signed to a label! It’s a good feeling to know we have a label that supports and believes in us but over all the “feeling” is the same as being an independent artist.

What is different now that you are signed from when you were independent?
Any money we make no longer comes to us, Ha Ha! In truth the only things that have changed are consulting with the label before you make major decisions. The only people we had to answer to before was US, but now we have another party in the mix! It’s a team now rather than an “US against the world” mentality.

What was it like touring with Framing Hanley?
Amazing! Those guys really took us under their wing. I remember thinking “what if these guys are total jerks, and they hate our band and the fact that we’re the new kids on the label?” The reality is about as far from that as possible. It was such a great time, playing to their audience every night was such a killer opportunity for us!

Every band has a crazy story or two…what’s your favorite?
Well when you tour with Framing Hanley the stories are aplenty! We’ll just sum it up using a few words/ objects: Booze, Bottle of Shaving Cream, Unconsciousness, Video Camera, Love, Hole, Women’s Underwear! Yep, that will do it, you can use your imagination from there…but trust me it’s not as creepy as you think!

What was the moment that made you feel like you have made it?
We’ve far from “Made It”, so let’s do this interview again in a year and we’ll see if I can answer that or if I’m working flipping burgers!

What would be your dream band to tour with?
WOW…so many come to mind…I’d say the *NSYNC reunion tour (when it happens, and it will!) More realistic you say?? How about a band we all love, Anberlin!

When does your new album come out?
EARLY 2010! It’s called Downtown Merry-Go-Round, so let’s start the trend here and start abbreviating it DTMGR

Please tell us what to expect from your new album?
Songs you love to sing at the top of your lungs on your drive home from work or from school or from the message parlor or from the candy store or from the fish market or from the elevator repair shop…any place really!

What is the most important part of being in a band to you? What is the best perks?
Getting to write music and play it for people every night…getting up on stage every night to a room full of people who have no idea who you are and after two songs seeing the smile on their faces! As for the perks…when venues feed you, that’s the Shniz!

What was surprising about being on the road? Was it what you expected?
Surprising how many strangers are willing to let you into their houses to sleep on their floor! We had a dude let us sleep at his place, brings us inside, leaves us there with his pregnant wife while he went out to party with his buds! We aren’t creeps, but that’s a little to trusting if you ask me! I think the road was what we were all expecting but at the same time not, if that makes sense. Nothing can truly prepare you for touring full time, you just have to jump in!

Dr. Manhattan was at once, a rising band in the post hardcore scene. Touring with big name acts like Fear Before (The March Of Flames) and Heavy Heavy Low Low. Their self-titled debut on Vagrant Records, contained most of the essentials for post-hardcore, but strayed away from screaming. They found a comfortable spot where even though the music was heavy, the vocals did not have to be. With a sound that was raw and in your face, they swept kids off their feet, plunging them deep into a maelstrom of distorted guitars and heavy drums.

Most fans were expecting their next effort to be just as heavy, but Dr. Manhattan had a better idea. Dr. Manhattan released the 12 track experimental/progressive album Jam Dreams. Totally throwing away their old style, they infused different genres to create something completely unique that spans all the way from punk rock (Texas), to a jazzy groove (After All), and even spiced it up with a little 80’s hip hop (Misses Stewart). It was shocking to say the least, but filled a void in the post-hardcore scene. Jam Dreams is a terrifically exciting album worth picking up immediately.

Hot Indie Artists got the opportunity to ask the band some questions. The humorous answers we received back were questionable, but pretty awesome. Enjoy!

Written by: Xan Mandell

Note: All answers provided by the conjoined minds of the band in full sitting cozily in a Lansing, MI coffee stop named Deckers. -Dr. Manhattan

Do you guys have a definition of your sound?

Four guys in a basement laughing their asses off at their own music.

Do you think your music fits into one type of ‘scene’?

We should hope not. The word or idea of “scene” is very limiting. There’s a world of culture out there to indulge in. We want to dip our tips in all of it and encourage everyone to do the same.

What music influences you?

In outerspace, there is a proper way to answer this question. But we will attempt to answer it here on Earth. Music that makes our bums hum. its very difficult to pinpoint genres because there’s good stuff in it all. We’re influenced when we start listening and our bulbs light up. The band Tune-yards is a perfect example of this.

How do you guys write songs? As a band, one person comes to you with an idea and it grows, etc…?

Finger gestures in the thin air. It grows when the gestures harden. A song idea can come from anywhere. Sometimes an idea starts out as a joke. These usually become our best tunes.

What is your opinion on the success of your self-titled?

Success?

How does it feel to have Jam Dreams released?

Wonderful. We felt like there couldn’t have been better vibes going around the room during its creation. It represents our personalities much better than the self-titled did. It’s a more pure sensation of sensie pennies.

There is a pretty clear genre switch from your-self titled and Jam Dreams, what prompted that?

It’s like how in junior high I considered listening to guttermouth a good time. Now, I consider throwing up on my feet a better time. Do you feel me, brother? It’s not that we think the self-titled isn’t a great album, IT IS, it’s just that we’re not in 7th grade anymore.

What expectations do you have for Jam Dreams? Since it is very different from your self titled, do you worry about losing fans or think you can appeal to a new audience?

We want it to bring good times for anyone looking. We weren’t sure what to expect, but all of the feedback from fans has been positive, and everyone seems to enjoy Jam Dreams. Now we’re even more confident when it comes to experimenting with new ideas. It’s a good feeling to know that our fans are willing to embrace changes in musical direction.

You were signed with Vagrant records, but on your myspace, it says you’ve moved to Cassette deck, what prompted the change? Has it benefited you?

After we split from Vagrant we weren’t sure what we were going to do with Jammie D. Our friend, Jim Miller, approached us and offered to release Jam Dreams on Cassette Deck. It made sense. Besides all the bricklaying and landscaping we are enslaved to do for Jim’s detention camps, we’ve been somewhat happy (kinda) working with Cassette Deck, for now at least, until we get picked up by Wal-Mart or Disney.

Is this band just for fun, or do you see yourselves continuing on with it for as long as possible?

Both. Please. Yes.

I read once somewhere that you guys would play any venue; house party, roller rink, is this still true? Where do you enjoy playing most?

True to the tooth. We’re down to play anywhere there are enthusiastic folks who enjoy participating. A good show isn’t necessarily based on the club so much as the energy floating around the room.

You’ve played with some pretty hardcore bands (fear before, Heavy heavy low low) do you think you are/were easily accepted in the scene, or did it take work from your (from what I’ve watched and read) aggressive shows?

We’ve played with all kinds of different bands that may not seem to fit and the Fear Before/Heavy Heavy Low Low shows in particular where some of the best we’ve had and didn’t seem to deter people’s enthusiasm. In fact, the lyrics in “Mailman” are based on those times we spent on tour with those two bands.

What do you guys do during your downtime?

Here’s a good example of a night at home. Last weekend, our friend Hannah came over with a bag of records, a tub of legos, two bottles of wine and some pita bread. Adam spent an hour and a half in the kitchen preparing a meal we’ve dubbed, “Monk-Dalai Moon Delight” while we sat in the basement building “saw chambers” and company cars and a dream station center-piece out of legos. Andrew set the table using napkins with false names written on them. DELICIOUS!!

Any funny tour stories?

One fine tour night, we found ourselves frolicking about Jacksonville Beach, at the time of year when the only strangers walking around are those who sell $2 boxes of wine. When things really started moving, all of us were butt naked running in and out of the ocean. We joined arm over shoulder in a circle for a quick ceremonial tip tap. Butt naked. Then we each took the sacred time necessary for inseminating the Atlantic ocean.

So what is next for Dr. Manhattan?

We’re gonna continue bringing our strange entertainment to cities across this great land. We’ll be touring south to Texas and back with our pals Bald Eagle Refugees all through March and we’re getting fun new songs together so we can record a new album, but that probably won’t be for a little while.
